Uses of Different Vitamins

There are plenty of different nutrients that fall under the catchall label “vitamins.” However, various vitamins have different effects on people, and when your company is selling vitamins, it’s essential to know what each kind does.

Vitamin A

This is an essential vitamin for eye health. Too little Vitamin A can lead to a buildup of keratin within the body, which can cause a variety of problems. Breastfeeding or pregnant women need to be careful to get adequate amounts to avoid harming their children.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

This is essential for growth and health for all people. A deficiency can cause a disease called beriberi, which is marked by extreme weight loss and difficulty moving. Without treatment, beriberi can be fatal.

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

This vitamin can be used to treat migraines as well as some eye diseases.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

This is sometimes used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Too little niacin can cause serious skin diseases.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

This is a necessary vitamin that is used throughout the body. A deficiency could mean all sorts of diseases.

Vitamin B6

This vitamin is essential for metabolic functions and healthy skin and eyes. The elderly or those with diabetes are at risk for this deficiency.

Vitamin B7 (Biotin)

This vitamin is vital for pregnant women to keep in mind, as they are most at risk for a deficiency. Too little biotin can cause brittle nails or hair loss.

Vitamin B12

This is a vitamin essential for mental health. A deficiency can cause damage to the nervous system. This vitamin is also sometimes used to treat cyanide poisoning.

Vitamin C

This is useful for preventing scurvy, a 17th-century disease which has largely been eradicated. Today, people use Vitamin C to help prevent the common cold.

Vitamin D

This vitamin reduces the risk of cancer and can be used to help bone health and weight loss.

Vitamin E

This vitamin can be best used as a topical medication for getting rid of scars.

Vitamin K

Newborns and children are most at risk for this vitamin deficiency. This can lead to liver diseases.
